Sunday Wrap!

28 02 2011

Good bye February, thanks for coming! We’re still crushing our attendance and growing like crazy, even in the ‘dead’ of winter! Lots of new life around Crosspoint even though our world is buried under 10 feet of snow. You can sense spring in the air and the hope of one crazy God-awesome season of life change and renewal. Bring it on!

– Yesterday was week 2 of our ‘Groundhogs’ series. Week 1 was about grace, week 2 was about faithfulness. We got an overview of the 12 history books of the O.T. Our focus text was Joshua 3:1-5, especially verse 5, “Purify yourselves for tomorrow God will do great things among you.”

– “Following the Old Testament can be like driviing on NB roads in Spring.” “We have faith because of the facts and feelings come after the fact.” “Before God can do anything great through you, he has to do something great in you.” (that’s either a Perry Noble or Craig Groeschel quote, I think) “God has something better for you and it doesn’t include sin.”

– I have to say again that I really love the look of our new stage set. It adds to the worship experience and really represents a ‘best gift’ effort to Jesus. Love it!

– Loads of new faces yesterday. Whoa! Seriously. If we ever get everyone there on the same day, we’ll be seating people in the lobby. If you know anyone who has missed for a couple of weeks, give them a nudge and invite them for this Sunday.

– We had a really good time of prayer around the altars after both services. I’m praying for all of you this week and praying that God would make us the people we need to be before we are ever the church he wants us to be. (Change in individual hearts = change in the church = change in our city)

– We had another new Crosspoint baby to welcome in the second service. Abigail Wells was 6 days old and in church!

Set List/Artist/Album
“Fairest Lord Jesus” Christy Nockels, Passion:Hymns Ancient and Modern
“Before The Throne Of God Above” Shane & Shane, Pages
“How Great Thou Art” Brooke Fraser, Hillsong Conference 2008
“I Will Exalt You” Hillsong, Faith+Hope+Love
“Blessed Be Your Name” Matt Redman, Passion:Sacred Revolution

***Don’t forget, the Hat Trick begins Sunday, March 27th. 3 services!!! 8:30, 10:00, and 11:30. Plan to go early or come late and open the 10:00 up for more people. The services will be identical, so you won’t miss a thing.

Sunday Wrap!

21 02 2011

Hey Church! It was great to be back home with you yesterday. We had a fantastic time in the Dominican with Compassion Canada, seeing firsthand the difference they are making for Jesus. It was nice to be in the DR, and you know I love the heat, but there just isn’t any place like home and no other church like Crosspoint! Here is a look back at all things yesterday…

– We kicked off a brand new series, “Groundhog Day”, a four week overview of the Old Testament. When you read the OT, it can seem like the people just get stuck doing the same thing over and over much like the movie ‘Groundhog Day’. I intro’d the first 5 books of the OT, the Pentateuch. Our text was Genesis 22. Isaac gets set free and we start to see God’s grace shining through the OT.
– “Don’t let the parts of the OT that you don’t understand keep you from applying what you do understand.” “Unless you can give Him everything, you don’t have anything.” “Quick obedience in the right direction is always a good response to a test of God.”
– The worship was crazy awesome. Just seriously good. So good to be led into God’s presence and to hear people singing it out for Jesus!
– I am loving the new stage set/design. The lighting, live video, media, transitions, etc, all look so good. That is the result of good people working hard to offer our best to Jesus. You know who you are. Thank you!
– We had a Mark Brewer look alike. He was playing acoustic guitar. Nice.
– We had more salvations, more changed lives for Jesus!! Seriously. This is REVIVAL!!
Great crowd! Keep inviting people.

Set list/Artist/Album
“Our God Saves” Paul Baloche, Our God Saves
“Glorious” Paul Baloche, Glorious
“I Cling To The Cross” Paul Baloche, Our God Saves
“Amazing Grace” NewSpring Church
“Oh Lord You’re Beautiful” Jesus Culture, Consumed
“You Never Let Go” Matt Redman, Passion:Everything Glorious

Other Stuffs!
– 24 people showed up to the missions meeting last night!!!
– The ‘Crosspoint Hat Trick’ is coming, March 27!!! 3 services for 12 weeks or so. 8:30 (the best service) 10:00, and 11:30. Would you be willing to be inconvenienced in order for someone else to hear the gospel? How flexible are you for Jesus?

Praying for you all!

Sunday Wrap

14 02 2011

Guess what? It’s snowing again! And our loyal boss is wearing shorts in the Dominican right now. With that in mind, let’s read some good news: The Sunday Wrap!

We wrapped up the Guardrails Series yesterday with two fantastic services. There was a huge crowd with lots of new faces, and better yet, people raised their hand to accept Jesus! WOOHOO! Keep inviting people; you’re only changing the world. πŸ™‚

Worship was great — the highlight for many was the Rooftops song that had been taught at the Uprising Conference last weekend. It seems to be turning into a new Crosspoint anthem.

And video announcements….WOAH. Some of the most random and hilarious moments on video we’ve witnessed as a congregation took place yesterday, and people are still talking about them. Huge thanks to AJ Guptill and Brandon Ingraham (Pastor Emily’s finance, for those of you trying to figure out who that was) for their work on those!

Wesleyan missionaries to Haiti, Barry and Beth Gould, also shared with us during the service. Remember to keep praying for them, and contact Pastor Conard if you’d like more information about what they’re doing in Haiti, and how you can support them.

The sermon dealt with the daunting problem of sin — if we’re now controlled by the Spirit, why do we still sin? Hopefully you left feeling encouraged knowing that our power comes from our Father, and that He will carry us when we don’t have the strength. When in doubt, just think of the Darth Vader car commercial!

Here’s the set list for those of you who hunt down the music every week:
“Not To Us” Chris Tomlin, Not To Us
“Rooftops” Jesus Culture, Come Away
“The Wonder Of Your Love” Hillsong Live, Faith+Hope+Love
“Behold The Lamb Of God” Newspring Church Live Worship, Our God Is Love
“Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)” Chris Tomlin, See The Morning

And remember – next week we kick off our Groundhog Day series! We’ll be covering the Old Testament in 4 weeks. No, seriously. Don’t miss it!

Now for whatever reason, I feel like I need to go watch the Lion King.

Snowy Sunday Wrap!

7 02 2011

Hey Church! Those of you who were able to get here for church know that we had a great Sunday! Not sure why, but sometimes those storm days and lower attendance days are the times when God does something special. It was fun! Here’s the wrap-back:

– First of all, a HUGE shout out to the ladies and the Uprising Conference!!! At least 130 women seiged this place for Jesus last Friday – Saturday. We are hearing many awesome reports and we’re already planning for next year. The church looked awesome, the worship was awesome, I heard that Natasha Erskine did a great job, and it was just a solid time of ministry. Woooo!

– We’ve had a lot of snow this winter, but not on Sundays, until this Sunday! It was white out at 7:30 a.m. and most churches in the city were cancelling. We decided to go for it and 230 people were glad that we did. πŸ™‚ We had 100 at 9:30 in the morning which was really quite something considering what it looked like outside.

– We had a really powerful time of ‘unplugged’ worship. LOVE hearing you sing and seeing you respond to Jesus!

– I preached the message for the fourth week of our Guardrails series: Accountability/Community. We weren’t meant to do life on our own. If you feel like you can only handle your own problems it’s because you are handling your problems on your own! Galatians 6:1-5; 1 Peter 4:8 Remember, if you see another Crosspointer who has jumped a guardrail, gently and humbly hook a winch up to their shorts and bring them back to the cross side of the road!

– The stage at Crosspoint, the video and the lighting has left the universe and gone to an absolute total new level of awesomeness!! Seriously. AJ Guptill, Brandon Ingraham, Mark Brewer, Chris Saad and anyone else who I might be forgetting have just blown me away. It looks amazing. We are blessed.

Amanda Collicott gave me the set lists, artists and albums of not only Sunday’s set, but every set form the Uprising conference. Here they are!

The No Wedding Sunday

2 02 2011

Hey Church! We didn’t say anything on Sunday, but the “Wedding Sunday” we had mentioned for February is a no go. In order to do a wedding ceremony in church you need to have people who want to be married on a Sunday morning. It just didn’t work out. Maybe another time.

On the upside, this Sunday is a “DON’TMISSSUNDAY!!!”. Seriously. It’s going to be epic. Landmark. Just sayin. Don’t wait to hear about it from someone else or to see it on CNN. Be there! πŸ™‚

Have fun shoveling. See you Sunday. Praying for you!
