Top 5 Reasons to go on a Short-Term Missions Trip

6 11 2008

Our special guest this weekend @ Crosspoint is the General Director of Global Partners for the Wesleyan Church International, Dr. H.C. Wilson. We have churches and mission fields all over the planet and HC is the man in charge. He has Marysville roots, has served as General Superintendent of our denomination and also as our very own District Superintendent here in Atlantic Canada. As a speaker, he is one of our very best, makes me look like a bum, and will absolutely bring the Truth! You don’t want to miss it.

With our Missions Dinner this Saturday night, and HC speaking on Sunday morning, I thought it would be timely to keep us all thinking about taking a short-term missions trip. Pastor Conard is doing an awesome job with our missions endeavors and we want to see every Crosspointer giving to missions and every Crosspointer going on at least one trip. Write down all your excuses, and stick them through a shredder! :-)

Here are my Top 5 reasons. What are yours?

5. You don’t want to look back at your life with a bunch of regrets and ’should of’s’. Go while you can.

4. The discipline of fund-raising, saving, giving up your vacation time, etc, will do you good. (We were walking on a beach along the Indian Ocean while you were getting rained on in F’ton! You may as well spend your vacation in Africa.)

3. Just to encourage the missionary who is there full-time dealing with incredible challenges.

2. Purely selfish. Missions trips not only impact the people group you visit, they transform the lives of those who go. You will simply never be the same. Go, come home, convince others to go.

1. You believe Jesus when he said, “Go into all the world…”

Hey, Tim, I appreciate your leadership on this. The more “global Christians” you have in your church, the stronger disciples and leaders they will be right in your congregation.

Robin – we hope you are doing well!

Deb – Thanks for helping Conard with his technology. Haha. Maybe I’ll print my blog once a month and send it to him in the mail.

Kerry – Great to hear from you! We are committed to being a healthy church in these areas, knowing that it will pay off big in the long run.
